Maria Maria doesn’t stop you from dining out because of celiac disease or dairy allergies! Very accommodating and willing to work with you here is my experience with the location in Danville, CA. I called earlier in the day to verify I would be able to eat there and spoke to the Manager Ivan I believe was his name and he was great! He let me know that they would have gluten free chips ready for me and that they could easily do some dishes gluten free and dairy free since they prepare everything right when you order it. I was thrilled and made a reservation to come in at 7:30pm that night.
Upon arrival I asked if we could have Ivan come by our table just to verify all we had talked about earlier in the day. He came by and was so nice the whole time and made me feel extremely comfortable. He brought me my own chips and salsa so that there was absolutely no cross contamination between the other chips on the table. He then told me that he would inform the kitchen of my order and the waiter would help me figure out what I could order. He said they could even do some of the enchiladas gluten free and dairy free which I was surprised about, but I had my heart set on getting fajitas ahead of time. They just cook the fajitas in oil so safe and they told me they would heat up my corn tortillas in a new skillet and bring no cheese with the meal. Perfect!
The food came out and I was impressed, a different lady I hadn't seen yet brought me my meal and was fully aware of its gluten free and dairy free status. It even seemed like they gave me extra pico de gallo and guacamole with my meal since I didn't get cheese. On top of making me feel comfortable and checking up on our meal multiple times throughout the night the food was actually really cook. The way the chicken fajitas were done made them nice and spicy and I would recommend this meal to anyone! For one person chicken fajitas I believe it was 15.99 which while it seems pricey it did come with rice and beans as well and I consider this place a little nicer than your typical sit down restaurant. Of course everyone’s experience will be different so make sure they are taking the right precautions for you.
This last week I got to give King Arthur Gluten Free Muffin Mix a try. This was the only muffin mix we were really able to find and it was at Target even on sale! The mix is supposed to make 12 muffins but for all 3 boxes I actually got exactly 14 in each. This may have had to do with the fact that for our add-ins we did fresh berries so this may have expanded the mix slightly. This mix though is gluten free, dairy free, egg free, soy free, and I believe nut free. I believe it may just even be completely allergen free. The mix does call for 3 eggs so I am sure you could use an egg replacement substitute. It takes 1 cup of milk as well. I used almond milk but you could use rice milk too I'm sure. The muffins themselves rose actually quite a bit we were surprised. I made one box with just fresh blueberries and then the second 2 boxes with a mixture of fresh blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries. This gave the muffins a beautiful color and on top of that all these muffins turned out nice and fluffy. They were quite good and even easy to make. It says on the package to grease your muffin pan but this isn't necessary if you get the Reynolds foil cupcake liners. These really helped with clean up. I would definitely buy this mix again; we ended up freezing about 30 of the muffins for quick and easy breakfasts the next month.
With the looks and taste of my finished product below I would definitely say 5 Star product.
Oh how I wish I would have taken more pictures of this place! I found this little gem while searching on yelp for new gluten free friendly places to dine in the Roseville area since I would be there for work. Dr. Bob’s Donuts popped up on my search and at first I thought it was just a vegan place. Which while that does help with the dairy allergy I have it doesn’t really help when it comes to celiac disease. Upon visiting their website though I find out that their donuts are 100% gluten free, dairy free, vegan, and even allergen free. I was so excited I made it a point to come here for breakfast before my first demo job.
The lady from the back came up right away to help me and asked if it was my first time here. With an eager look I said yes and proceeded to look around while asking questions. “Are you 100% gluten free, dairy free, etc…” I got the exact answer I wanted to ever single question. They even have dairy free fro-yo! To make what they call a Do-yo which is a Donut topped with fro-yo! It was such a cute and good idea!
I then decided to start making my breakfast. I got one of the basic vanilla donuts and then moved over to their array of homemade sauces. They had 4 different hot glazes and then 5 or 6 bottles of sauces all homemade by the chef. :) She really out did herself on the sea salt dairy free caramel. It was so good on top of that donut. Then I moved to the fro-yo which I layered on top of my donut with both the vanilla and chocolate flavors! Then once I moved to the fresh fruit section I noticed they had kiwi fruit which I have a severe allergy too. She went back though and got me fresh blueberries, raspberries, and banana that wasn’t anywhere near the kiwi fruit up in the bins. Very accommodating. I then moved to the pudding section where they make homemade chia puddings and puddings out of So Delicious brand yogurt. I thought the chia puddings tasted good though I did not put any on my donut and the yogurt bases I wasn’t a fan of probably because in general I don’t like the culture in yogurt I think it’s too sour. I think moved to the rest of the dry toppings where I added enjoy life chocolate chips and apple chips! I ended up going back and adding more fro-yo since I knew I would regret it if I didn’t.
I walked over to check out with also a large coffee in hand and my bowl with the extra cut up fruit on the side ready to by weighed. I thought at first the total would be well of $10 since it was a specialty place and I got a large coffee. To my surprise though the total was under $10 at .64 cents an ounce and I got 20% off with my check in on yelp! Not bad for such a specialty item I think!
Upon tasting my concoction out in the car I was pleasantly surprised that the donut was still warm even under all that fro-yo! This made me really happy. Being able to go in somewhere and have everything in the place is always refreshing. They sound like they are sourcing their ingredients correctly and understand the worries people have when it comes to allergies and celiac disease. I would definitely come back here again. My only negative comment would be that there are no restroom’s. I usually drop a star off my review for something like this, but I understand that they are in an old location in historic Roseville and restrooms just aren’t as common in this area. So I will stick with my 5 stars and be back anytime I am in the area. Thankfully this month calls for work in Roseville again!
