Simple. Wholesome. Natural. That is exactly how Path of Life describes themselves. This family owned Food Company is based in Chicago, Illinois. The focus is to have simply good, natural, clean food. With such a variety of products to try I was ready to dig into my array of frozen quinoa sides and vegetable side dishes. All of their products are naturally gluten free and all products are dairy free with the exception of one; the All Natural Mediterranean Quinoa.
First, digging into one of the most basic frozen dishes, the Quinoa & Brown Rice. I served this with homemade chili and I definitely left the table feeling satisfied. The quinoa and brown rice had great flavor with the addition of olive oil and garlic. I thought initially this would be very bland but the side had great flavor and just those small additional ingredients made a huge difference.
The rainbow cauliflower was interesting. First I knew other cauliflower colors existed but you hardly ever see them anywhere! Getting to try this was definitely a treat and I just included this colorful side with dinner one night. With organic green, orange, purple, and white cauliflower I was in heaven. I got a healthy dose of organic rainbow veggies that were as tasty as they looked.
The Tex Mex Mukimame is quite the interesting mix. I didn’t know what Mukimame meant till I looked it up the next day. It means ‘shelled edamame’ or otherwise known as soybeans. Along with soybeans, this mix has a colorful array of veggies; corn, red bell pepper, poblano peppers and black beans. I’m sure there may have even been a couple more veggies in the mix considering how colorful it was. The mix wasn’t super spicy but it did have a nice kick to it. I would have liked to have tasted a bit more spice in this one but I guess I’ll live with the nice poblano flavor it does have.
I decided to split the Organic Superfood Pilaf with my mom as part of our dinner one night. This pilaf is a blend of quinoa, carrots, butternut squash, kale, sweet potato, and various spices. We both really enjoyed this blend and thought it had great flavor. The mixture of veggies and spices really was a win in my book. I’d definitely buy this one again to have a quick and easy blend to heat up for dinner or lunch.
The next night after splitting the Superfood Pilaf we split the Garbanzos and Lentils side. This was quite an interesting and tasty side dish to a lovely salad. The mix is a blend of white and green garbanzo beans, green and red lentils, extra virgin olive oil, garlic and basil. While at first glance I was skeptical it ended up being a great side dish. My mom gobbled up hers as well; all throughout her meal she was praising the dish.
The Roasted Garlic Cauliflower I actually got to try for the first time at the GFAF Expo in Chicago and boy was it delicious. I actually went back to try it again and just loved the garlicy taste it had. Even if you’re not typically a fan of cauliflower you will like this, guaranteed!
Last but not least we have the Southwest Quinoa. I saved this one for last because I love the sound of a Mexican style dish and everyone saves the best for last right? Well I know for a fact I always do. This mix is a blend of cooked white quinoa, cooked red quinoa, mango, fire roasted corn, cooked black beans (black beans, water), extra virgin olive oil, fire roasted tomatoes, poblano peppers, cilantro, lime juice, sea salt and organic black pepper. I loved the nice kick this mix had which I’m sure come from the addition of the poblano peppers. I love a little (well actually a lot) of spice is almost everything I eat so I’m really glad I saved this one to finish off my tastings. I can’t wait to get some more of these for my boyfriend to try, he’s a quinoa fanatic!
