It has become the battle of the gluten free corn dogs in our household. We are on a mission to try each of the gluten free corn dogs on the market as long as they are dairy free as well. After trying the Ian’s mini corn dogs my dad and I were excited to give the Foster Farms full sized gluten free corn dogs a try. We found these at our local Safeway in a box of 12 for only $6.49. Quite a good deal considering these are gluten free and dairy free. What excited us immediately about these is the outside of the box reads “Honey Crunchy Flavor, double dipped in honey batter.” Now that sounds amazing right there!
A few days after buying them we decided it was time to try and I pulled them out of the box. To my surprise they looked exactly like your standard corn dog. Normally with gluten free items they can look a little different then there glutinous counterparts, but no these looked exactly the same. I heated them up in the toaster oven at 450 degrees for 18 minutes as indicated on the side of the box. They came out piping hot and we devoured them with some mustard. To me they were no different than the standard corn dogs I had had pre-celiac diagnosis. My dad even thought there was really no difference between these and the hundreds of other corn dogs he has had in his lifetime.
We came to a consensus that these are definitely the best corn dogs we have tried so far. The batter was really no different than the standard corn dog you get from your local fast food joint. Foster Farms also makes gluten free chicken tenders as well. Maybe one of these days I will have to give those a try as well.
