I never thought I would be able to eat at your standard breakfast/lunch joint. Ever since I got diagnosed with celiac disease I assumed all mom and pop joints were out. Come to find out though I was doing some research on gluten free friendly breakfast options and Lili’s had rave reviews! I finally decided I would go over with my dad to at least talk to them, and hopefully it would be a safe place to eat. We arrived at about 9am on Sunday after Christmas and they answered all our questions beautifully. They are able to do almost anything on the menu gluten free, even though they only have a tiny gluten free menu on the table. On top of that, they were able to accommodate my dairy allergy and could do almost anything, even French toast! The only things they really couldn’t prepare dairy free were the pancakes and waffles because those use a mix that already has dairy in it. I loved our waitress who just made me feel so comfortable. She has celiac disease like me and completely understood how to talk to the chef in the back.
Now you’d think at 9am I would end up ordering a breakfast but no, I was craving something savory. When I learned they made their own gluten free teriyaki sauce I immediately opted for the gluten free chicken teriyaki bowl! They cooked everything separate for me and made it clear that it would take longer for our food so they could take the necessary precautions, but I was completely okay with that and understanding. Even despite that we got our food faster than I expected and it was so good. My meal was a bed of rice with an egg scramble on top of it that was mixed with green onions and cabbage. Then on top of that a lovely sliced chicken breast, served with a side of their gluten free teriyaki sauce. I mean this was really, really good for being a small restaurant. You would not expect that they would make a dish like that but it was something I would definitely order again in a heartbeat. I can't wait to come here again, everyone was just so knowledgeable about what needed to be done to keep me safe. Definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone with celiac disease.
