Outback has been one of the restaurants I have avoided since being diagnosed with celiac disease. I’m not sure exactly why but something always made me uneasy about their ability to be able to handle my food allergies. Finally my family convinced me one day to give it a shot since they themselves always had good experiences in general with the staff.
We went to the Stockton location because we were meeting family that was in from out of town. I got the gluten free menu when I sat down and asked to speak to the manager. At first I was a little uneasy about how the manager was handling my questions. Normally I prefer the manager to handle my order, especially if I get the vibe that our waiter/waitress isn’t as familiar with the gluten free menu or food allergies. Finally the manager seemed to understand what I was getting at and handled the order himself. The waitress came around and already knew what I wanted and said that the manager was taking care of it.
For gluten free and dairy free I ended up with the grilled salmon and steamed veggies. I was disappointed in the amount of food I got. I thought they’d be extra generous at least on the side since I only got one, but nope. It seemed like a small portion of veggies and a small piece of salmon. I believe we were charged $15.99 at lunch time for this meal and it was the most expensive on our order. I did appreciate them being careful though and understanding how I preferred it was handled. If you would like to see their gluten free menu you can visit their website here. The website is easy to navigate and actually quite helpful. Make sure to always speak to the manager on duty about how they can accommodate your food allergies.
