We ended up coming here twice while on vacation at Disneyland. It's a pretty convenient place to eat in Downtown Disney and is accommodating with food allergies.
Everything that is gluten free is labeled on the menu with a GF next to it. If you have any other food allergies the servers are very helpful and aware of the ingredients that are in each of the dishes. I ended up trying a couple different soups that they had and my boyfriend got the chicken fajitas both times. Easily our favoritewas the chicken fajitas especially with the homemade corn tortillas made right there. The managers even made sure that when our tortillas were being made the grill was extra cleaned to ensure us not getting glutened.
We loved it and went back twice. The servers handled my questions great when it came to being dairy free. For the fajitas they substituted the sour cream and cheese for guacamole. What is great is even the chips and salsa are gluten free. They are fried in a dedicated fryer which as most celiac's know is very uncommon. The salsa was tasty and the chips were very fresh. We will definitely be back next time we are in the LA area!
We decided to go to the Hollywood Café after my grandma found online that they have a gluten free menu. After speaking with the family that runs the 50's style diner café I was very pleased with the precautions they took to ensure you got a gluten free meal. They discuss with each diner there sensitivity and make sure to clean the grill off or even do as I requested and just make it all in a separate pan. They had a separate gluten free menu which had tons of options. You could get what seemed like anything on the menu just modified to make it gluten free. Since I am dairy free too though we had to have a little deeper discussion on what would work for me. After the waitress spoke with their mom in the back it was determined they could do the gluten free french toast dairy free as well by whipping up a quick batter for mine that didn't have the cream in it. This ended up working out great and I was super happy with the end result which was topped with loads of strawberries.
A couple things to keep in mind when you visit; communicate with the waitresses your level of allergy or sensitivity and they do not have a gluten free toaster. They can toast your bread in a pan or on the grill if you request it. They use Pamela's mix for their gluten free pancakes and Udi's bread for all the gluten free options. Next time I think I'll try the chili which looked super good on my grandpa's breakfast!
Definitely a great breakfast/brunch spot to meet up if you have celiac or other food allergies. They understand and can take the precautions necessary to make sure you have a safe meal.
Sensitive Sweets is a unique bakery in it of itself that it is gluten free, but on top of that it is also a bakery FREE of dairy, eggs, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, and sesame. The only baked good that they had with eggs was the lemon bar. Fantastic a bakery that specializes in gluten free, nut free, and vegan! Not only are they free of all these allergens, but they are also extremely good. We tried so many products it is going to be hard to remember them all, but here is what we tried below.
Tuxedo cake (You can thank the boyfriend for this one, he pre-ordered this for my birthday!)
Cinnamon sugar pretzel
Rice krispie treat
Chocolate covered apple
Pumpkin doughnut holes
Frosted sprinkle donut
Apple bread pudding
As you can see we got to try a lovely selection of treats and we were fans of everything! My personal favorite was probably the tuxedo cake, but only because it was my Frozen birthday cake. My boyfriend on the other hand loved the lemon bars and the lemon cupcakes. Hmmmm seems like someone has a bias for the lemon. Haha we enjoyed everything and can’t wait to be back again in So Cal to pick up some more treats! It will definitely to order there gluten free gingerbread house kit for the holidays!
I think this was one of my favorite new finds when I was down in LA as far as being gluten free friendly and overall very allergy friendly. I ordered to go and everything needed to be gluten free and dairy free. The ladies working were super helpful in the ordering process and making me feel safe in the precautions they would be able to take in the kitchen to ensure we had a safe meal.
We ended up getting...
Fried Green Tomatoes: Super yummy and way better than I was expecting. The gluten free panko like coating was crunchy and the GTG sauce was delicious!
Chili Lime Popcorn: Delicious, one of the best popcorns I've had.
BYO Salmon salad with strawberry beet dressing: Delicious but pretty basic.
BYO Gluten free Chicken Flatbread with GTG sauce: My boyfriend loved this and turned it into two meals cause it was so big!
Shisito Peppers: These blistered peppers were so yummy and I was glad I had them all to myself.
Corn Chowder: Delicious and the first dairy free corn chowder I've been able to find.
Overall great experience, we will definitely be back next time we are in LA. If you are in So Cal they have locations in Brea and Orange.
