We decided to go to the Hollywood Café after my grandma found online that they have a gluten free menu. After speaking with the family that runs the 50's style diner café I was very pleased with the precautions they took to ensure you got a gluten free meal. They discuss with each diner there sensitivity and make sure to clean the grill off or even do as I requested and just make it all in a separate pan. They had a separate gluten free menu which had tons of options. You could get what seemed like anything on the menu just modified to make it gluten free. Since I am dairy free too though we had to have a little deeper discussion on what would work for me. After the waitress spoke with their mom in the back it was determined they could do the gluten free french toast dairy free as well by whipping up a quick batter for mine that didn't have the cream in it. This ended up working out great and I was super happy with the end result which was topped with loads of strawberries.
A couple things to keep in mind when you visit; communicate with the waitresses your level of allergy or sensitivity and they do not have a gluten free toaster. They can toast your bread in a pan or on the grill if you request it. They use Pamela's mix for their gluten free pancakes and Udi's bread for all the gluten free options. Next time I think I'll try the chili which looked super good on my grandpa's breakfast!
Definitely a great breakfast/brunch spot to meet up if you have celiac or other food allergies. They understand and can take the precautions necessary to make sure you have a safe meal.
