Before I got diagnosed with celiac disease and various food allergies my favorite food was always Mexican! For a while I thought I would never get to have it again. My dad encouraged me to search around for safe Mexican places to dine at since he was sure that some of them must be able to accommodate. After searching for quite a long time, I found this place on yelp and had been debating on going here for quite a while. Based on their menu online it looked like they were pretty aware of allergens. I decided to finally go with my dad right when they opened at 10:30am so I would be able to talk to them about all the ingredients and preparation.
I walked in and was immediately shocked at how clean it was. The front and back of the place were spotless which is always a good sign. I spoke to the cashier working and while he wasn’t exactly aware of all the allergens he knew exactly who to ask. Luckily though the chef cooks the food right there in front of you so he can talk to you and answer any of your questions you may have. He immediately reassured me of the gluten free items and that they really only use dairy as a topper and that can easily be left off. There fryer is also dedicated gluten free, so potato chips are safe!
The menu is pretty extensive so it took me a while to decide, but I ended up getting the Chile Verde plate which came with two handmade corn tortillas and rice and beans. My dad ended up with the potato chips which I snuck a few of, a taco, and a flan. When the food came out the portion was quite large, but very tasty! I loved the grilled cactus on top of mine and I’m pretty sure my favorite part was those homemade corn tortillas. My dad thoroughly enjoyed his flan which I believe can be gluten free if you get it with no cookies (not dairy free). I was thoroughly impressed when the employees brought out items they kept telling me what I could and couldn’t have I loved it! It reassured me that they really understood the situation and knowing me I am always pretty nervous when going out to eat, especially at a new place.
